2024 Concours Award Winners
Our 23rd Annual Event
This year's trophies were custom made scale S14 valve covers, placed inside decorative frames. James Liu came up with the concept, and working with another enthusiast had an S14 valve cover 3D scanned and then had the part printed by a high quality shop that creates industrial and scientific prototype parts. We always custom-make trophies for SIGFest, and refuse to award something off the shelf or traditional- and this year James created these amazing mementos. It really, truly is a difficult task to pick winners for trophies at this event, so I feel a bit sorry for our judges each year. The collective knowledge of the judges / enthusiasts made selecting the winners a lengthy task, as they poured over the gorgeous examples. The trophy categories and winners were as follows:
Best of Show: Mike Gallino
1990 Laguna Green Cabrio E30 M3. All E30 M3's are amazing, but "Best Of Show" goes to the car that the judges unanimously agree is a cut above the rest. Mike Gallino's 1990 M3 Cabrio edged out the competition. The car is stunning
in every way. The leather interior is impeccable, under the hood- is absolutely spotless. Same goes for the
underside of the car. Simply a museum - quality car that drove to the event. Insane. The "Best of Show"
title was at least a 5 - way tie, and I am sure it was not an easy decision for our panel of judges.
Best Modified: Ruben Frias
Hartge Tribute E30 M3. Forget original paint, low miles, and restorations for a moment- "Best Modified" goes to the E30 M3 that is its owner's canvas. Most of these cars are modified in some way, but we are looking for a car that takes it
to another level, either as a street car, a track car, an art car, or a combination of all of those. Our judges agreed
that Ruben Frias' incredible Hartge - inspired build understandably won their hearts and
this trophy.
Best Stock: Jay Holt
1990 Alpineweiss II E30 M3. It's getting harder and harder to find a completely stock E30 M3. The casual observer may look at a car and think it is stock, but our judges are quite knowledgeable and notice the smallest detail. This award is presented to the car that is closest to stock, and the way the car would have been delivered new to a dealership. After all of the back and forth comparison and discussion of the slight differences between cars - Jay Holt's gorgeous '90 Alpineweiss II M3 looked most like it rolled off of a dealer lot (AND it has almost 170,000 miles... AND it is for sale!)
Road Warrior: Michael Dabreu
1990 Alpineweiss II E30 M3. The "Road Warrior" Award can be defined in a multitude of ways, which offers a good amount of flexibility to our judges since all of the cars are beautiful in their own ways, and all of them are potential winners. This year "Road Warrior" described a car and an owner who has used the car heavily, and enjoyed the car the way BMW intended. Michael Dabreu and his 1990 Alpineweiss II E30 M3 personify "Road Warrior", and made giving this trophy to him an easy decision.
SIG Meister's Choice: The Bossert Family
AlpineWeiss Parts Car Tribute E30 M3. SIG Meister"s Choice: The "SIG Meister"s Choice" Award is chosen by the organizers, (James, John and I) and goes to the car we like- for whatever reason. This year- it went to the Bossert family for their legendary Alpineweiss "Parts" car E30 M3. This is an homage to the factory BMW 6 Series race car covered with graphics showing the car's components, and looks as if BMW themselves created the livery.
The Gary Bossert Memorial Award: Chet Marfatia
1990 Schwartz Sport Evolution E30 M3. The Gary Bossert Memorial Award is award winner was chosen by the Bossert Family who were at the show. This award was given to someone who embodies the spirit of a true enthusiast and enjoys collecting cars, taking cars that they are impassioned with to the track, and traveling the world to enjoy automotive experiences. The Bossert Family awarded The Gary Bossert Memorial Award to Chet Marfatia and his Schwartz 1990 Sport Evolution.
