SIGFest 2015 Recap:
Our 16th Annual Event
SIGFest 2015 was a success! We had cool but comfortable weather, lots of enthusiastic participation, and (of course) really beautiful E30///M3's. For those who couldn't attend, here's a brief recap of the day:
Friday night Tech Session at Tyspeed Automotive:
Tyler Pappas lead an interesting tutorial on how to prepare a car for storage for the winter months, and also gave some expert advice on what to look out for when buying a vintage car. Brandon Wheaton's car was up on the lift for demonstration and is a beautiful car to illustrate what every prospective buyer wants to see when buying an E30///M3. Tyler's shop and the adjoining Powerslide Motorsports collection (consisting of a variety of vintage BMW, Porsche, Lotus, and full race cars) made a fascinating backdrop to the event. Thank you Holger Ahl and Tyler Pappas for allowing us to use your shop for the event!
Saturday's Picnic and Concourse:
Saturday's 16th Annual SIG Fest Concourse and Picnic event was held at the Spring Meadow Golf Course, in Wall NJ. We had a great turnout, Saturday, with 53 E30///M3's, and about 150 SIG, S14 Members and guests. See pics here: Jalopnik Article, the MFatuation Blog, and our own 2015 Gallery.
In the 16 years we have been running this event, I can't remember a year when more pristine cars turned out. Every car was really amazing looking, and no two were alike. There was such a variety of E30///M3's - from completely bone stock examples to highly-modified custom builds. After a cool but comfortable day of meeting new people, enjoying great food and experiencing incredible E30///M3's- it was time to hand out the car show awards. This year's trophies were custom made S14-inspired Stainless Steel watches, mounted on custom acrylic base stands (see the 2015 trophies and winners here).
It really, truly is impossible to pick winners for trophies at this event. So I feel a bit sorry for our judges- Gary Bossert, Ben Thongsai, and Phil Cataldi. The collective knowledge of these three enthusiasts made judging a lengthy task, as they poured over the gorgeous examples. The trophy categories for 2015 were as follows:
Best of Show
SIG Meister's Choice
Best Stock E30///M3
Road Warrior E30///M3
Dedication
We then raffled-off some great door prizes, donated by our generous sponsors, including a beautiful BMW Disk-Brake Bicycle, and a Children's BMW M6 Pedal Car.
A Special Thank You to Our Sponsors
Tyspeed Automotive, Maximillian Imports, JMK BMW, Turner Motorsport, BMW of Tenafly, Bimmerworld, BMW of Bloomfield, Rogue Engineering, Greg Smith Equipment, Bavarian Autosport, MiniBimmers, Lance Richert, Detailer's Domain, Enthusiast Auto Group, Bossert Motorsports, Heritage Racing, Valeski Motorsports, Grundy Insurance and Masleh Motorsports!!
NOTE:
IF YOU WON SOMETHING- PLEASE EMAIL THE VENDOR THAT DONATED THE ITEM THAT YOU WON AND THANK THEM. IF YOU DO THIS, IT WILL MAKE IT EASIER FOR US TO GET DONATIONS NEXT YEAR. IF YOU DO NOT REMEMBER WHO DONATED A PARTICULAR ITEM, DROP ME AN EMAIL, AND I WILL REMIND YOU WHO DONATED IT. IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO OUR EFFORTS NEXT YEAR.
Thanks go out to James Liu and John Henriquez whose assistance made this event possible. John does a great job creating and managing the website www.sigfest.com . Check out his website (www.microphobia.com ) if you are interested in website solutions. Thanks also to the numerous SIG members who helped out at the event this year, (namely my lovely wife Laura, my sister Heidi, Phil and Michele (Fun) Cataldi and Steve Valeski) for helping make things run smoothly.
As event organizers, James, John and I see our role in all of this as setting the stage for you, the stars of the event. Without all of the enthusiasm and active participation, the event would fall flat, so thanks for coming out and spending the day (and in many cases- the entire weekend) with us, and making SIG Fest 2015 a success!
Thank you for supporting SIGFest!
Sincerely,
The SIGFest Team
