SIGFest 2024 Recap:
Our 23rd Annual Event!
SIGFest 2024 was a huge success! We had cool but comfortable weather, lots of enthusiastic participation, great food, and (of course) really interesting, diverse and beautiful E30 M3's. For those who couldn't attend, here's a brief recap of the day:
Friday Night SIGFest Opening Dinner:
We had a great turnout for the SIGFest 2024 dinner, at The Brownstone Pancake Factory in Englewood Cliffs NJ. We had 35 SIG Members and their guests in attendance, and enjoyed great food, drink and conversation with fellow BMW E30 M3 enthusiasts and owners.
Saturday's Picnic and Concours:
Saturday's 23rd Annual SIG Fest Concourse and Picnic event was held at Columbia University's Lamont Campus, in beautiful Palisades NY. The campus is tucked away on the peaks of the Palisades Mountains literally on the NY/NJ border. The parking area we used was surrounded by trees, all showing their fall colors, and provided a beautiful backdrop to the Brilliantrot, Cinnabarot, Diamontschwartz, Lachsilber, Sterlingsilber and Alpine hues of the amazing assortment of E30 M3's on display.
We had a great turnout, Saturday, with 74 E30 M3's, and about 150 Members and guests. Those who registered received their registration packet, which included some great gifts from our sponsors- including a custom SIGFest water bottle - courtesy of Mario and Chris Langsten at VSR who were at the event. We were also honored to have Marc Norris in attendance this year - all the way from California, (Marc owns and operates Bavarian Workshop and is a renown BMW specialist and builder.) Also having the legendary Don Fields (formerly known as Mr. M Car), Dwayne Hausman (MCar Service), Ben Thongsai (B&D Import Car Repair), and Ron Checca (Redline Motorsport) in attendance- we actually had the entire E30 M3 brain trust in one place at one time.
In the 23 years we have been running this event, I can't remember a year when a more diverse array of cars turned out. Every car was really amazing looking, and no two were alike. There was such a variety of E30 M3's - from a few almost completely bone stock examples to relatively stock cars that had cages and harnesses (you could just tell that they were used as BMW intended) to racing-liveried clones to highly-modified custom builds.
After several hours of reconnecting with friends, meeting new people, enjoying great food and experiencing incredible E30 M3's - it was time to hand out the car show awards. This year's trophies were custom made scale S14 valve covers, placed inside decorative frames. James Liu came up with the concept, and working with another enthusiast had an S14 valve cover 3D scanned and then had the part printed by a high quality shop that creates industrial and scientific prototype parts. We always custom-make trophies for SIGFest, and refuse to award something off the shelf or traditional- and this year James created these amazing mementos. It really, truly is a difficult task to pick winners for trophies at this event, so I feel a bit sorry for our judges each year. The collective knowledge of the judges / enthusiasts made selecting the winners a lengthy task, as they poured over the gorgeous examples. The trophy categories and winners can be view in our Gallery.
After the awards were presented, we then raffled-off some prizes, donated by our generous sponsors, including a BMW E-Bicycle, Bose Products, Gift Cards, car detailing products, a toddler-sized BMW ride-on toy, Scale / RC Models, Books, BMW enthusiast clothing, maintenance kits and so much more. Whether it's obvious or not- it takes a LOT of time to plan and organize a SIGFest event. A BIG thanks to James Liu, who does so, so much to make these events happen. Without his efforts these events would not take place. A massive thanks goes to John Henriquez who continues to take on so many of the tasks that are needed to get the event organized, scheduled, and announced. There are seemingly endless tasks that need to be performed before, during and after the events that we simply could not do ourselves. My wife Laura and James' wife Shauna do SO SO much to make the event run smoothly. Plus - they put up with US, our schedules, our guests, and the mess that overtakes our homes preparing for this event. James' kids Jared, Ava and Chloe and my kids Anthony and Avery do so much to help every year (and this event is older than they are). To John and Luke Dunnock, Steve Valeski, Dave Flogaus, and the numerous people who offer assistance during the event every year- honestly- what you do to assist us with this event makes the whole event look organized and tidy. It's because of your efforts that these events are successful and as beloved as they are. To all of the participants, you bring energy and enthusiasm to the event, and make it an event worth coming to every year.
As event organizers, James, John and I see our role in all of this as setting the stage for you, the stars of the show. These cars are now considered rare and valuable collector's cars, and that means that it's more important than ever to get them out of the garage. Far too many of these
cars will become just part of someone's collection, never to be seen again, so we encourage their continued use and enjoyment. Without all of the enthusiasm and active participation, the event would fall flat, so thanks for coming out and spending the day (and in many cases- the entire weekend) with us, and making SIGFest 2024 a huge success.
We've been busy planning SIGFest 2025, so check this site for the latest info and announcements. New for this year, please check out our new Instagram page: search #e30m3sigfest.
Sincerely,
